Every 2nd or 4th Sunday or by appointment. Classes for Baptismal instruction are held on the Third Friday of each month at 7:00 P.M. in the Religious Education Room of the elementary school building. Parents and godparents must attend and bring the child’s official Metropolitan Health District birth certificate. Godparents must bring proof of Confirmation and, if married, must show proof of receiving the sacrament of Matrimony in the Catholic Church. Children over the age of five must attend the parish’s Religious Education Program on Sunday mornings in order to be baptized.
PENANCE AND EUCHARIST
The sacrament of Penance (Confession) is usually administered in the second grade and First Eucharist (Communion) in the third grade. Public school children must enroll in the parish Religious Education Program and attend classes for two years in order to receive both sacraments.
The sacrament of Confirmation is administered no earlier than eighth grade. Like the First Eucharist preparation, students must attend Religious Education classes for two years with no more than four absences per year. In the second year of preparation, Confirmation candidates must attend two retreats and earn at least twelve service hours in our parish. Adults needing only the sacrament of Confirmation can attend classes on the six Monday evenings of Lent.
Couples planning to be married at Holy Name Church must make arrangements with the pastor at least six months in advance. Classes for engaged couples in the southeast area of San Antonio are held here at Holy Name Church on Thursday evenings. Contact Anna Alvarez at the rectory for further information.
The family may make arrangements with the funeral home of their choice. Please notify the church office as soon as possible of the family member’s passing. The funeral home will coordinate with the church to schedule the rosary and the funeral Mass and burial with the priest or deacon. Family members are asked to come to the church office to choose Scripture readings and to indicate plans for music and family participation in the Mass, and so that we may inform the bereavement committee. The Parish Hall may be used, subject to availability, for family gatherings after the burial.
