Theme: “On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit” (Gospel).We revert to the ordinary time of our liturgy and as we say “back to normal.” Yet Christian life is a new normal, a different way of looking and understanding. Jesus Christ established the new paradigm of life and therefore a new standard of loving and living. There are always surprises and hopefully good ones. As we say in Texas, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute!” Change can be quick and beyond what you expect.
In the Gospel, the world is introduced to Jesus. “John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world’” (Gospel). We hear the testimony of John, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God” (Gospel).
Indeed, He is the Son of God, Jesus Christ! Last week’s gospel of Matthew spoke of the heavens were opened and the voice, the Father’s voice was heard saying, “this is my Son, with whom I am well pleased!” Sunday after Sunday, we listen to him in the Scriptures, and we receive him in the sacrament of the Eucharist, body and blood. We are his body and God nurtures us in every way.
Like John we say, we see and testify to the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst, in the church we worship, and in the lives we live. St. Paul in the second reading tells us, “to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.”
Let us pray: God our Father, we are grateful of your providence and love. Grant us joy and peace as we receive your Son Jesus Christ, healer and savior through the power of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, Amen.

Tema: “En quienquiera que veas que el Espíritu desciende y permanece, él es quien bautizará con el Espíritu Santo” (Evangelio).
Volvemos al tiempo ordinario de nuestra liturgia y como decimos “volver a la normalidad.” Sin embargo, la vida cristiana es una nueva normalidad, una forma diferente de mirar y comprender. Jesucristo estableció el nuevo paradigma de la vida y, por lo tanto, un nuevo estándar de amor y vida. Siempre hay sorpresas y, con suerte, buenas. Como decimos en Texas, “¡Si no te gusta el clima, espera un minuto!” El cambio puede ser rápido y más allá de lo que esperas.
En el Evangelio, el mundo se presenta a Jesús. “Juan el Bautista vio a Jesús venir hacia él y dijo: “He aquí, el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo” (Evangelio). Escuchamos el testimonio de Juan: “En quienquiera que veas que el Espíritu desciende y permanece, él es quien bautizará con el Espíritu Santo”. Ahora he visto y testificado que él es el Hijo de Dios” (Evangelio).
De hecho, ¡Él es el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo! El evangelio de Mateo de la semana pasada habló de que se abrieron los cielos y se escuchó la voz, la voz del Padre que decía: “¡Este es mi Hijo, con quien estoy muy satisfecho!” Domingo tras domingo, lo escuchamos en las Escrituras, y nosotros recibirlo en el sacramento de la Eucaristía, cuerpo y sangre. Somos su cuerpo y Dios nos nutre en todos los sentidos.
Como Juan decimos, vemos y damos testimonio de la presencia de Jesucristo en medio de nosotros, en la iglesia que adoramos y en las vidas que vivimos. San Pablo en la segunda lectura nos dice: “a ustedes que han sido santificados en Cristo Jesús, llamados a ser santos, con todos aquellos en todas partes que invocan el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, su Señor y el nuestro.”
Oremos: Dios Padre nuestro, estamos agradecidos por tu providencia y amor. Concédenos gozo y paz mientras recibimos a tu Hijo Jesucristo, sanador y salvador a través del poder del Espíritu Santo, un Dios por los siglos de los siglos, Amén.
